Christmas Time

I made some red velvet cupcakes from a recipe forwarded to me by a baking addict in the office (you know who you are). She had gotten the recipe from the Chelsea Sugar website - Here is the link to the recipe if you want to give it a go Red Velvet Cupcakes Recipe

It's an easy recipe and is absolutely delectable...the only evidence left of these cupcakes are the pictures you're looking at now.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas & New Year

Daisy Fruit Cake

Here it is! I finally covered a cake with fondant, even the daisies were made of fondant. It's not the prettiest looking thing but hopefully with practice I'll get better and there will be less visible flaws.

I made the fruit cakes a little too late this year and so they're a little dry...The ones made earlier this year are sitting in a fridge 8,000 miles away.

I seem to be constantly running into a problem of not knowing what to do with the finished creations. I guess we'll have to finish this cake ourselves...

Snowflakes in Summer

Summer Snowflakes

Macaroons should have come out of the oven this weekend but carrot cupcakes came out instead. I saw the carrots at the vege shop and momentarily forgot that I was supposed to try my hand at making macaroons. Oopsie!

I covered the carrot cupcakes with a layer of cream cheese frosting then topped it off with a snowflake.

There's about 2 dozen of these yummy treats left in the kitchen...first in first served.

Enjoy!!

Munkay Time

I said to someone at work that I would not bake this weekend and she bet that I would end up baking...I just couldn't resist....

I ended up baking a chocolate cake with white chocolate truffle filling in the shape of a monkey -  a new piece of bake ware my other half bought for me as a gift. The first time I used this tin the cake broke in half when I tried to get the cake out of the tin so this is my second go at using this tin and I had no problems - phew!

Who would like a piece of this cake?! It's far too big for the 2 of us to finish.

a pretty present for you

I couldn't resist it...I had to go into the kitchen!!!

Here is my very first attempt at decorating a cupcake using fondant. This wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be.

The chocolate cupcake is covered in a thick layer of chocolate ganache before I prettied it up to look like a gift.

a pretty delectable gift for you

It's been a while

I can't believe it's been more than a month since I last posted anything...I have been busy at work - yes I do have a day job though I wish that my day job would be creating pretty yummy things rather than sitting in front of a computer all day long. And I've just been on a quick trip to attend a girlfriend's wedding - amazing wedding and an embarrassing one at a certain point.

Just so you know, I won't have time to bake anything for wee while as I will be away in a place without a kitchen which I could use to bake cakes and cookies - not that I will have the time anyway.

I made more butterfly cupcakes about a month ago - I was attempting to use all the butterflies I  had made the previous week. For the swirls, I decided to use 2 tones to be a little different but they're still very girlie pastel colours.

More cupcakes...

It's starting to get a little repetitive with cupcakes but I've made more of them.

I made these for a friend's workplace...It's the flourless orange and almond cupcake yet again. I put in too much of the cake mix into the cupcake papers and I ended up having to cut the tops off which made the decorating challenging. Lesson learnt here to NEVER over fill the cupcake papers. Such a disappointing project for me personally and this has been bugging me all day yesterday and today.

I made use of the bumble bees I made the previous weekend. I still one wee lil' fella left...guess I'll be creating more again soon.

Black Forest Cupcakes

Here's some nice black forest cupcakes topped with freshly whipped cream for you to drool over - there's cherries below the whipped cream. I was short of cherries to top it off with so I just grated some chocolate on the top.

My other half decided to break up a bar of Cadbury flake and put it onto the cupcakes. Full marks for him!!

I'm feeling a little peckish writing this entry...time for me to have one of these treats now.

More purple flowers

Gluten free orange & almond cupcakes with flower line designs

I whipped up a batch of gluten free orange and almond cupcakes this weekend. I added a layer of chocolate truffle below the icing for 6 of the cupcakes and according to my guinea pig he thinks it was delish though my preference was to have it without the chocolate truffle. Note : my guinea pig has a sweet tooth!

I tried not to overdo it with icing this time so I have spread on just enough so it levels with the paper cups and just used simple line designs with purple flowers again - I made a whole load of the flowers which I am slowly going through. I will have to use the yellow flowers up next so watch this space for when I create my next lot of little sweet temptations.

The month of many birthdays

It sure is a busy month for birthdays! This can only mean that I get to bake and decorate more cakes (or cupcakes).

I made a cake for Terence's birthday but the imagination department of my brain wasn't functioning at it's optimum so all he got was his name on the cake and bits of grass at the bottom. I'm having a 'decorators block'!

I was up late making his cake last night so I didn't get a chance to make a cookie monster cupcake as I had promised someone I would. I will have to make it for him next weekend...

baby cupcakes

Here are my other little treats I made for a colleague's birthday today. They were bite sized chocolate cupcakes with a swirl of icing and a pansy on top.

Flowers overload

Flowers flowers flowers...they're everywhere!

A lot of work has gone into the making of this cake. I judge this by how sore my arm is - it's pretty sore right now. Maybe it's time for me to head to the gym to do some weights and strengthening work...and to work off the creations I've been scoffing down.

I was testing a new cake recipe I found - flourless orange and almond cake. It's easy to make and it's yummy. I can't wait to try the cake with the decorations tomorrow - I don't know if I can watch the cake being cut.

I've decided I'm going to give this cake to my boss at work since it is his birthday this weekend - I'd like to see his reaction when he sees the girlie cake I've made. I have another unfinished cake in the kitchen waiting to be done up - I'm going to do more flowers and butterflies but with other colours...so watch out for the next post.

Spring time blooms

daisy n pansy bloom - butterfly swirl - daisy n apple bloom

It's now officially Spring! Yay!

I was busy in the kitchen making another lot of merry-go-rabbits and doggie bones SPCA cupcakes for a friend's workplace and decided to design the extra cupcakes with flowers and butterflies to celebrate the longer days and extra sunshine we will get - *crossing my fingers and toes it won't be all grey and cold*

I'm still trying to get the vanilla cupcake and chocolate mud cupcake recipes perfect so I'll be on the lookout for guinea pigs to taste test my little designs.

The world of Sesame Street

This is my first attempt at making Cookie Monster and Elmo cupcakes as a request from my baby brother.

Cookie monster was a walk in the park to create but Elmo proved a little more challenging. Finding Elmo a nose and a mouth was experimental to say the least! Someone had to eat up the leftover noses which were in different colours.
