Happy Mama's Day

Pecan & Maple Syrup Cake

Happy Mother's Day to all the mum's out there!!

I made a pecan & maple syrup cake for my mum today. Being the disorganised daughter I am I just winged the design although I had other ideas - a basketweave with maple syrup buttercream and lots of handmade roses with butterflies in between was one but I had run out of time.

Engagement Cupcakes

Congratulations George & Ashley

I couldn't decide what to get for our friends - George & Ashley who got engaged a couple of months back and we're catching up with them for dinner tonight so the 'easy' way out for me was to whip up a small batch of cupcakes.

The cupcakes are vanilla cupcakes with vanilla frosting - the recipe came out of the Hummingbird Bakery Recipe Book. It seems to be my favourite book at the moment as I am going through trying the yummylicious recipes.

And for desert tonight I made apple crumble...topped with custard or vanilla ice cream - hmmmm

The long weekend

My first ever gumpaste shoe

The oh so divine Malteser Cupcakes
Honey & Pear Cake with Honey Cream Cheese Icing

It's Monday night - the end of what was a nice and quiet long weekend.

I was on a mission to try out some new recipes I had found. I now have malteser cupcakes and pear & honey cake with honey cream cheese icing sitting in the kitchen.

The icing - one word - DIVINE!!! I'm going to try this on some vanilla cupcakes.

I had also spent some time to try making a gumpaste shoe - it was alot easier than I thought it would be except I need to have a few more goes at making the heel.

Lemon Cupcakes

Lemon Cupcakes topped with Lemon Buttercream

I'm on a roll!

A friend rang yesterday to say she'll be arriving back in Auckland today for work so I decided I'd try out a lemon cupcake recipe I have found a wee while ago. This is a 'welcome back - we missed you' treat for her.

Tiered Cake

I know! I can't believe it either - my very first tiered cake. Who would have ever thought that I would even get this far. I would used to look at these cakes wondering how these works of art were created and now I know!

This is only the beginning of what will be many more creations - I hope.

I must say that this hobby is expensive!! Along with the golf lessons this is starting to hurt my piggy bank.

I've been looking at some courses in Australia and the UK but these will be on the 'wishlist' for someday in the future.
